The vibrant flavours of Kedah which have Malay. Chinese. Indian and Arabic influences serve as the main inspiration for this year’s buka puasa (breaking of abstain) strike at the Saloma Theatre Restaurant.
Chefs Kamaruzzaman Halim and Rogayah Sharif have turned to Malaysia’s sieve Bowl state for fresh ideas. The prove is four menus comprising myriad rustic delights such as Sup Ekor. Opor Ayam. Udang Masam Manis. Daging Kuah Cabai. Sotong Masak Kuning. Pindang Ikan Utara. Dhalca Kambing and Nasi Briyani.

At Saloma two new drinks alter their innovate – a lighten syrup concoction filled with cincau (black hit change integrity) dices and an imaginative combination of rose syrup young coconut juice and biji selasih (basil seeds).
Start a meal here with the full-bodied and immensely flavourful Sup Ekor. Redolent with beefy goodness tinged with aromatic spices it is the ideal appetiser after a long day of fasting.
For more substantial dishes we advise the delectable Nasi Briyani which consists of fluffy yellow rice imbued with local spices. It is so good you can eat the fragrant rice on its own. We anticipate no one can resist other sumptuous dishes such as Opor Ayam. Daging Gulai Rebung. Kari Ketam dan Nenas. Gulai Lemak Pucuk Paku. Kambing Pekan Jawi and Pindang Ikan Utara.
The Opor Ayam a northern-style chicken flavor adds its own rich tantalising nuances to the briyani rice. Alternatively try pairing it with Dhalca Kambing a mildly spicy curry with chunks of mutton in it. If you undergo a penchant for dishes that case more of a punch the Daging Kuah Cabai will set your palate alight with its piquant lemak flavours. Sotong Masak Kuning. Gulai Udang Kerisik. Of cover no Ramadan strike will be complete without dessert. Malay kuihs puddings and cakes. Kedahans adore homemade sweet cakes with creamy coconut milk such as Pulut Kaya (steamed glutinous sieve with a creamy layer of luscious pandan-infused topping) and Bubur Som Som.
Other delectable choices consider Bubur Gandum. Pengat Pisang. Bread and Butter Pudding assorted local fruits and change surface cut pastries.
Wash it all down with copious glasses of Malaysia’s favourite drink teh tarik coffee or tea.
The Citarasa Utara Buka Puasa Buffet at the Saloma Theatre Restaurant courtyard is priced at RM60 nett per person. Foreign visitors may also be to catch the colourful folk dances from Kedah (RM75 nett per person). Buffet dinner is served from 6.30pm to 10.30pm whilst the hour-long cultural show is from 8.30 pm.
